"Troll Flixtor" The mountains there are. Atop one of them, young Nora Tidemann and her father Tobias are gazing at a stunningly beautiful craggy range. Tobias asserts that if one truly believes, one may make fairy tales come true, particularly those with enormous trolls prowling about out in the wilds.
After twenty years, Nora is a paleontologist who excavates dinosaur bones from mud and is no longer close to her father, a raging lunatic. In other places, the Ugly Progress of Industry blasts a tunnel through a mountain to make room for a new railway, and in the deepest recesses, a metaphor for evil climate change rises and lumbers forth.
Does anyone know of an authority on old folklore who is knowledgeable about items buried for a very long time and whom the government might consult? Right. In order to meet with the Concerned Prime Minister, a Stonefaced General, a Slimy Politician, and a few other cliches, Nora is helicoptered to one of those top-secret high-tech subterranean bunker headquarters.
They examine images of what appear to be enormous footprints and footage shot by bystanders of a strangely human blur-shape smashing objects, which causes the Slimy Politician to make a crude King Kong allusion.
Otherwise, the heads of state would simply fire nukes at the thing, so it seems like a job for some weirdos with expertise in the occult and a couple of unlikely allies who form a ragtag group of saviors who think outside the box! So Nora welcomes the chance to reconcile with her dad, who is now a crazy old nut in a cabin obsessed with trolls.
The prime minister's advisor Andreas and military captain Kris join them as they zoom into the areas of devastation to avoid being trampled by the enormous troll, which has stone skin and tree roots for a beard and may or may not be anatomically correct, I just couldn't bear to look that closely. The object is unaffected by tanks and machine guns, thus a more, let's say, a holistic approach may be required.
